supermarket stormwater

Location: Minneapolis, MN

Commercial properties often exhibit large amounts of impervious surfaces. This project features a complete disconnection of the parking lot and building water runoff. A series of strategically placed rain gardens collect surface water and allow for slow infiltration. A meadow replaced an open and unused lawn. Combined, these efforts collect and absorb every drop of a 1" rain storm. Given the site's close proximity to the Mississippi River, this creates a profound and measurable impact to a continental ecological system. The project was funded by the Mississippi Watershed Management Organziation (MWMO) and completed with the local non-profit Metro Blooms.
