Location: North Oaks, MN
Architect: Tom Ellison Architects
The homeowners, native to Oak Park, IL, were inspired to create a home that emulated the stylings of Frank Lloyd Wright. Carefully sited and built, the home is oriented around a family of 300 year old White Oak trees. The landscape, a series of courtyards, and woodland slopes contain only natural materials. Native limestone paths and woodland plantings create an immersive woodland experience both inside and outside the home. Roof water is collected in an expertly crafted stone runnel and spills over a series of character stones and an architectural water feature. The water is collected in an underground cistern for reuse. The larger site is currently undergoing woodland and meadow restoration activities.
