Our approach to master planning is an intentional and inclusive process that iteratively builds consensus around a shared vision for the future. The process involves utilizing geospatial data and field inventories to create an accurate map of the site conditions to inform decision making. We conduct interviews with stakeholders and review relevant research to ensure that our recommendations are grounded in science and accepted best practices. We develop a detailed understanding of the different kinds of programming that will take place onsite and frame important decisions about what that means from a spatial and budgetary perspective. In order to understand its experiential qualities, we spend a significant amount of time onsite to understand its ecology and intrinsic sense of place. This information is then analyzed and synthesized into design recommendations that bring into focus important decisions regarding the configuration of facilities and site elements, key ecological relationships, the arrangement of access routes, planning for research and public engagement, and the prioritization and budgeting for different projects.
