Big Sand Lake

An upstate getaway for a couple who grew up in the north woods and became world travelers. Our design process aimed to create a place that exemplifies the feelings and quality of northern Minnesota. A weaving and climbing entry to the property unfolds as you rise toward the home. Bold moves with slate that resemble bedrock hold up the structure visually. Intricate plantings of Lowbush Blueberry celebrate this northwoods native plant and provide a memorable summer activity. Clean outdoor spaces become extensions of the clean interior. New plantings at the edge of the forest, soften and blend the new construction with the greater landscape. To top it off, a gorgeous view of Big Sand Lake.
