WISCONSIN POINT (Gibiskising minis)

Urban Ecosystems has partnered with the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve to create a restoration plan for Gibiskising minis (Wisconsin Point).  The Fond du Lac Band regained the land at the tip of the point from the US Government in 2017 and is planning to restore endangered dune and pine forest plant communities after more than a century of active disturbance.  This process has involved the return of Ishkode (Fire) as a management tool and will limit vehicle traffic to where it is essential. The plan will maintain public access to the site, along with the creation of a dedicated gathering space where the community can responsibly enjoy this unique and beautiful landscape.
